Workshop 2012
As LCI's 2012 Workshop comes to a close, we look at the results of the past two weeks. Fifty-six educators attended, coming from across the U.S. as well as from Brazil, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and Tasmania. The participants told us they were impressed with the immersion-to-implementation process, which focuses on the engagements with the arts and the role of the arts in the overall academic curriculum. Equal parts theory and hands-on approach, each week's workshop addressed LCI’s Capacities for Imaginative Learning and offered experiential activities. It took the participants from the performance of The Adventures of Fishy Waters, a multimedia song-and-dialogue performance by Guy Davis, to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and back to the classroom, where they compared their observations and expressed them verbally, musically, with movement, and through art making.
Inquiry-based brainstorming around works of art as well as lesson planning were among the essential skills which the participants are taking with them.
“I feel privileged to be here,” said Thomas Furano, artist and educator from the Mount Saint Michael Academy.
“Shout out to LCI instructors for an amazing week of workshop,” tweeted Gloria Mou, Manager of Education and Community Programs at the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, who wrapped up her visit with the attendance at the New York Philharmonic free concert in Central Park.
The participants in this professional development event enjoyed the Lincoln Center Experience Package, which includes free tickets and a copy of the book Imagination First. Find out more about the Workshop at http://lciweb.lincolncenter.org/workshops-and-courses/international-educator-workshops.
